Asset Depreciation Key, Useful Life, Depreciation Expense, Depreciated Too Early

$

Hi Folks,

I hope all is well. Your CSUS College Student back at it again with another question. I work for the State too and they messed up their Depreciation Key when creating Assets. Now, I have to figure out how to fix deprecation for Assets.

Originally Assets were created with Depreication key LINR. LINR, regardless of the month that the Asset is purchased in, depreciates the first year in full and then uses the straightline method to calculate deprecation moving forward.

We updated the configuation and changed the deprecation key to ZINA, ZINA uses the straightline method from the month that the Asset was purchased and depreciates it monthly using the straightline method. This is what we want.

So, 1 solution is to Retire all of the Assets that have the LINR deprecation key and do a complex posting to the new assets using the ZINA deprecation key. However, this process was ruled out. We don't want to retire the Assets to fix them.

Now, we have Assets that have Depreciated too much. And, we have Assets that have fully depreciated when in actuality they still have a useful life. So, my question is how do we debit the asset (GL 2349009700) and credit Depreciation Expense (9033245118).

For Example: Asset 9700000000, Capitalized on 6/15/2012 for $6,245.79 with a 3 year useful life is fully depreciated. The correct useful life is 10 years. So, this Asset is not supposed to fully depreciate until 6/1/2022. As of today it should have 74 more months before it fully depreciates and it should be depreciating at 52.04825 on a monthly basis (6,245.79 divided by 120 months). How do I post $3,851.57 (74 months * 52.05) back to the Asset so it can continue depreciating at the normal monthly rate?

Thanks in advance! Let me know if I need to provide any additional information.

Depreciation Calculation in second year

$

Hi,

My company uses the Asset Management module for Projects works for years. Recently we received credits to a project that has started depreciation from last fiscal year. Management would like to see the benefit be reflected from the reduction (credit) in the related projects depreciation expense.

At first I thought it would work by posting the credit to the related assets and SAP would adjust the depreciation expense. But SAP didn't work as expected. I've tried to replicate SAP calculation on attached excel on an asset with a capitalized date 31/12/2013 and a depreciation start date on 01/07/2014 and couldn't do so in the second depreciation year. SAP does not do any "depreciation catch up" from asset value date to depreciation start date, whether it is a debit acquisition or a credit.

I checked the depreciation key use for this asset on AFAMA with a description of "Str-line from acq value to zero" with the Dep. to the day ticked. Could you advise me

1. How SAP calculates in the second year of depreciation?

2. How's it different to the first and where else could I find more details on the setting of the depreciation key or depreciation method

3. Also how can I get SAP to post the required credit adjustment on depreciation expense?

Thanks very much

Janet

New asset less than 180 days (india tax purpose) half of depreciation

In India, there is a requirement that the Depreciation for Income Tax should be calculated based on the date of Acquisition. If an asset has been acquired before or on completion of 180 days of a Financial Year, than the calculation of Depreciation is allowed for full year. If the asset has been acquired after 180 days , depreciation is allowed only for 180 days. Hence for an asset acquired on 25/09/2009, system should allow calculation of depreciation from 01/04/2009, assuming that the fiscal year starts from 01/04/2009 and ends on 31/03/2009. However, if the asset is acquired on 07/10/2009, the system should allow depreciation from 01/10/2009. Sap has delivered standard depreciation keys for the same in reference chart of depreciation for India 0IN.

But if the asset has been acquired on 01/10/2009, still the asset has to be depreciated from 01/04/2009, since the asset has been acquired for less than 180 days into the fiscal year. The system is working fine for asset capitalized on 25/09/2009 and 07/10/2009. But we are not able to map the same if asset is capitalized on 01/10/2009 and 02/10/2009. For these two dates, the depreciation should start from 01/04/2009.

I have checked the period control setting and calender assignments and everything seems to be in place. How can we tackle the issue?

Several issues with adding new Depreciation Area in existing ChoD

$

I have created a new Depreciation area following the standard customizing steps and then executed AFBN and AFAR. It has been created as Real dep area that does not post to G/L.

All customizing settings are correct following the bussines requirement. Customizing tcodes/tables have been maintained correctly. OABC, OADB, OABD etc.

Now, the problems that I have faced so far are:

1. AFBN was copying the depreciation keys from Dep Area 01 not from OAYZ. I managed to overcome this issue by copying the RAFABNEW program to a Z one and deactivating a couple of lines. Actually I followed the suggestion from another post here.

2. I could not delete and replicate AFBN in D11. Again, I have found a function module that I picked up from a similar post here. It deletes everything and I can repeat AFBN.

Also minor problems here and there.

The main problem that I face however is the system error message:

SYST: You cannot change the depreciation periods

Message no. AA662

The source of the problem seems to be the fact that the existing Dep key in Dep area 01 calculates depreciation to date. T090NA-XDAILY is flagged. The same field is not flagged for the Dep Key that I use for the new Dep Area.

This somehow results in setting 365 as the value for T095B-PERFY for the new dep area as well. In my view it should not.

I have tried running AFBN both ways. Meaning option "Leave values Initial" flagged and  not flagged and I am always ending up getting the error message in AS02 for the least.

There exist a number of notes addressing this error and a detailed wiki as well:

Error message AA662 You cannot change the depreciation periods - ERP Financials - SCN Wiki

However, none of these seems to be helpfull. Any inputs ideas are welcome!

Error Message AA 834 in F110 while making down payment against Asset (Other than AUC)

Hi,

While making the payment in F110 against Request (F-47) created for PO with Account Assignment Category A (Non AUC), I am getting the error as "Error Message AA 834 You cannot use this transaction type to post to this asset". To correct this I have done further configuration in OAYB but system is generating additional Accounting Entry by debiting the down payment on Asset Code apart from the normal payment entry.

If we process the payment against the same Request in F-48 then system is making the payment document successfully. This was achieved by following configuration changes-

1. Field Asset and Asset Sub no has been Suppressed in the relevant FSG of Asset Recon Account
2. Message control F5 378 has been changed as W from E.
If you have any solution for the above issue then please inform.

Depreciation Key - Calculation Method

Hello!

It have basic understanding problem between Depreciation Key and Calculation Method. I'm familiar with concepts related to this as silos, but this question is about final result after assigning multiple calculation methods to 1 depreciation key.

I see there are multiple Cal. methods (For example, Baseline M, Declining Balance Method ....) are assigned to a single key. This key is assigned to depreciation areas and which has indirect effect of calculating depreciation for respective asset.

Q: My question is this depreciation key should calculate different values for respective calculation method for assigned asset. For example, for Baseline M one value and for Dec. Bal. M one value. If i'm thinking this in correct way, i don't see anything as such in Asset Explorer.

I would appreciate if some one get my understanding straight.

Thanks

Asset acquisition with F-90

Hello,

we are posting asset acquisition against vendor with F-90 (transaction type 100). We want to input different acquisition values for Depreciation area US GAAP and depreciation area Local GAAP.

However in the screen for F-90 we do not have ability to input different values. However i have seen before in another implementation that there was the option to input different acquisition values in F-90. I cannot find any customizing to control this - so does anyone know how to fulfill the requirement to post different acquisition values into different depreciation areas from F-90?

Thanks

Kai

Message no.AA347 You cannot post to asset in compa. code x fiscal year

Hi,

We are creating a new FI company, which copy from other one from the same country, so they are going to use the same chart of depreciation. The problem is that when i am going to post an asset in the new company the following message appears:

You cannot post to asset in company code AINN fiscal year 2009

'Message no. AA347

Diagnosis

A fiscal year change has not yet been performed in Asset Accounting for company code XXX.

Procedure

Check the asset value date.'

This is because the current year of the other company in DEV is a past year (2001), so the table T093C- LGJAHR is copied to the new company with this year and then transported in the copy.

What can I do? Should I run the TS AJRW o should I change the table T093C- LGJAHR by custminzing (I cannot not find in the customizing where to change it)?

It could cause any problem?

Thanks,

Cecilia

AA617 Acquisition value negative in area 01

Hi,

Can anyone please explainthe reason why i get the error message: "AA617 Acquisition value negative in area 01" when doing asset transfer in trasnaction AIBU?

During test in Dev environment, i got this error message. I was able to resolve it by ticking the "Neg. Values Allowed" in the AUC Depreciation area.

However, when i test again in Quality system, i do not have this error. The data i have processed in Dev and Quality are replicates. The only difference is that in Dev i am posting transfer in periods already in previous fiscal year. While in Quality, the asset transfer and asset creation date are all in the current fiscal year.

Is this the reason why?
